What delivering with us looks like.
As a Delivery Assistant, you take a day's packages from our Howell location and deliver them on a short route close to home, by car, by bike or on foot. Most routes take about 2 to 3 hours. Here's how a typical day goes, from the morning pickup to the last drop-off.
Four steps, start to finish.
The Amazon Delivery app guides you through each step and keeps your route in order.
-
Morning
Pick up the day's packages
Tote bags of packages for our zone are dropped off at our Howell location each weekday morning. The totes and any loose packages are scanned into the Amazon Delivery app, which confirms they're here and builds the route.
- Packages are kept in a clean, dry, secure spot and are never left outside.
- Empty totes go back to the supply driver the next day.
-
Before heading out
Sort and load
Packages arrive unsorted, so a few minutes of sorting saves a lot of time on the route. Group them by area or street and load them in stop order.
- The yellow sort labels on boxes group stops by letter and number, so you can keep the early stops within reach.
- Small padded mailers go into clear bins so they're easy to find.
- Businesses on the route are delivered first, while they're open.
-
On your route
Deliver, stop by stop
Start the route in the app and follow it stop by stop, whether you're driving, biking or walking. At each stop, check the delivery notes, match and scan the package, and choose the drop-off spot.
- Follow the customer's delivery preferences, and keep packages out of the rain and snow.
- Take a clear, well-lit photo of the delivered package, keeping people and personal details out of the shot.
- Wear the Amazon-branded vest and hat we provide, so customers know who's at the door.
-
Same day
Wrap up
Once every package is delivered, the route closes automatically and your day is done. If something couldn't be delivered, because of weather, a road closure or an access problem, bring it back and we'll handle it with support.
Work smarter, finish sooner.
A few habits make a big difference to how long a route takes.
Sort by direction
Split packages into north, south, east and west piles, then work one zone at a time.
Use natural boundaries
Main roads like Grand River Avenue make good dividing lines, so you're not crossing back and forth.
Check map and list
Switch between the map and list views in the app to see the whole route before you start.
Stack small items
Keep mailers and small packages together in a clear bin so nothing gets lost under the boxes.
Businesses first
Check the itinerary for business addresses and get to them during their hours.
Share the load
On days with more than one of us out delivering, packages are split evenly so everyone gets a fair route.
You'll be good at this if you…
- Are dependable and can work weekdays, Monday to Friday
- Like being out and about rather than at a desk, by car, bike or on foot
- Are careful with other people's things
- Are comfortable using an app on your phone
